Woman In the Dark by Dashiell Hammett (1933). My last volume of Dashiell Hammett, and a very thin one it is, coming in at only around 75 pages. A minor work, which fell in between The Glass Key and The Thin Man, this was originally published as a three-part serial in Liberty magazine. And that mainstream magazine serial feeling is very much there. It's good work with some interesting color, but not prime Hammett. Now that I've gone through them all, what would I recommend as prime Hammett? Bearing in mind that opinions are like assholes (everyone's got one), and I'm very partial to his Continental Op stories, I would recommend Red Harvest, The Continental Op, The Big Knockover, Nightmare Town, The Maltese Falcon and The Glass Key.
