IRREGULAR ORBIT - ookworld's wobbly satellite
The Real Cool Killers

Chester Himes' 1959 novel, The Real Cool Killers, is real tough crime fiction. To fiddle with the old saw of, "he uses words as blunt instruments," he uses words as switchblades and revolvers, with little room left for sentiment. One of his series of novels about Harlem police detectives, Grave Digger Jones and Coffin Ed Johnson, it's relentless and barely controlled forward momentum as the story careens through one long night of murder and mayhem. Very rough, and definitely not for the politically correct. As if any noir novel is pc.
