Top Fuel Dragster built and raced by "Big Daddy" Don Garlits in the early '60s. The first dragster to break into the 7 second range or to hit 200 mph (one of those, I forget which). Check the drivers-eye view to the left and note that you actually drive with your legs hanging over the rear axle -- and no doubt praying that shiny differential there doesn't explode into your tender parts! Or the engine in your face. Brutal. |

The Summers Brothers' Goldenrod set the land speed record for wheel driven vehicles in 1965. Powered by four Chrysler Hemi V8's, the Goldenrod thundered its way to 409.227 mph, setting a record unbeaten for decades. |
